Fair Winds Brewing Company Wins Gold at Great American Beer Festival

Fair Winds Brewing Company was awarded a gold medal for Siren’s Lure Saison at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver, Colorado. This was a good year for Virginia craft breweries, who brought home a total of 9 medals. Fair Winds Brewing Company’s medal was one of only 4 gold medals won by VA breweries, and the only one awarded to a NoVA or DC area brewery. Read more>

Beer of the Week: Fair Winds Sessions in the Abyss IPA

Fair Winds Brewing launched in March, and it didn’t take long for the Lorton brewery’s hoppy and flavorful saisions and IPAs to win fans. The Howling Gale IPA was an early head-turner, but brewers Charlie Buettner, a veteran of Mad Fox Brewing, and Will Cook, formerly of Port City Brewing, crafted a series of beers — kölsch, helles, Flemish stout – that helped Fair Winds spread rapidly throughout Northern Virginia, showing up on draft at sports bars, wing spots and Whole Foods growler stations. The D.C. area beer scene expansion continues: Fair Winds Brewing Co. plans to open a 30-barrel packaging brewery in Fairfax County next year. Topsail Brewing Company Changes Name to Fair Winds Brewing Company

We wanted to update all of our followers on a CHANGE IN THE NAME under which we will produce and distribute our beers, from Topsail Brewing Company to Fair Winds Brewing Company. This change is a result of the fact that a brewery from Oregon (which will remain nameless) alerted us that they would be challenging our Trademark application for the Topsail Brewing Company name. Apparently this brewery has decided to challenge any organization with “sail” and “beer” or “brewing” in its name. Read more >
